The "Intensive Period"

I finally began what I've been waiting to do for a long time: I began the "intensive period" of studying for Boards. According to UW's learning specialist (Jamey Cheek, PhD), we have about 6 weeks to study and we are pretty much expected to study 8-10 hours per day for that time period. It sounded kind of insane at first, but it's really not all that different to what I was doing while I was in school--except this time I don't have a ton of other commitments on my plate, so it feels...nice...

Before I got into the swing of things, Tom took off for Atlanta. We spent the day after I got back from Orlando suit shopping and found some great deals (although it still hurt to pay that much for a piece of clothing!)

After 3 days and one speeding ticket (which received literally 3 minutes from his final destination after "rolling through a stop sign) he made it. He's got some pictures from the trip, but I don't --so this is me calling him out from 3,000 miles away to post them :).

On Sunday, my "last day of freedom" I decided to cook up a lot of food so I wouldn't have to bother with it for a few days. I made some "garlic knots" to go with some home-made minestrone
and I tried my hand at a no-flour, no butter banana muffin for a quick grab-n-go breakfast as well as a "loaded baked potato" casserole for an easy left-over meal.

After baking all day, I got to join with some friends for a little BBQ and blue grass. My friend Hilary is incredible on the fiddle and she knows all the musicians in Seattle (I'm convinced). She invited them all to her house on Sunday evening for a little jam session and I was invited to come and enjoy the splendor.

I took a short clip because I thought if it was short it might actually load. Hilary is the one soloing in the salmon colored tank top.
It was a good reminder as I planned my day at the library the following morning that there is more to life than studying!

My new routine is to get up and start my day around 6, be at the library by 7:30-8 AM, study until 4:30-5 and then take a walk in the park while I talk/skype with Tom until about 6-6:30 when he needs to get to bed. Tonight I had to go check out the progress of the gardens at Magnuson--and as usual, I was impressed. I snapped a ton of photos of flowers (as usual) so feel free to browse in awe like I did:
