Our date in Steilacoom

With Tom's baseball schedule, we haven't had a lot of time to spend together, so when he finally had a day off, we decided to make a date of it and go on an "urban hike" :). We didn't want to spend the gas money to drive to Mt. Rainier for a short day hike so we decided to check out a town not to far from Tacoma, right on the water, that I had never been to before: Steilacoom, Washington.

It's a really cute, quiet place that feels like you're stepping back in time. Everything seems to run slower. There's a combination building that houses the post office, a barber shop, a law office, an investment firm and apartments all in one building right on the main street. We stopped by the old "Beir Store" to take a look around, and it was like a museum! There was an old soda fountain and book cases filled with artifacts from the 1920's which the woman working there said belonged to her late grandfather. We decided to support the local business and buy a chai and a hot chocolate. We were dumb and didn't get photos of them--they had an amazing presentation and were sooo delicious! See, can't you tell by the satisfied look on Tom's face?

We walked around the waterfront and passed by several gorgeous houses. This one, is actually a law office, but I thought it would be more fitting to be a Bed and Breakfast--what do you think mom and dad?

The house is right across the street from this band stand that was built in '91 which has an amazing view of the two bridges to Gig Harbor and the Chambers Bay Golf course.

We wandered around the town, up the hills over looking the water, and had a satisfying "urban hike".

On our way out town we stopped by Sunnyside Beach. It's a washington beach, so there's not much sand, and when there's rocks and a body of water, what do you think we're going to do with them?

But, I'll leave the real throwing to Tom. I look like a girl when I throw!

Actually, I kind of look like I'm just doing the "warrior" yoga pose...

Overall, it was an awesome day in Steilacoom, kind of random, we know, but what a fun date :)
