Thanksgiving felt like it came early this year. I guess times flies while you're having fun in graduate school. We got done with class on Tuesday and spent all day Wednesday baking up a storm. Of course, Tom wouldn't let us have a Thanksgiving without Challah bread, so the dough was the first thing on the checklist of the day.
This year, I was sick of having floppy pretzel jello so Tom stepped up and decided that he would be the one to master the annual treat this year.
I didn't get a picture of the final product, but there are several of the process as it was put together.
And, of course, we had to turn our "winnings" from the Pumpkin Push race into something great, so we boiled them down to make some pumpkin pie.
And, last but not least, we had to have apple pie as well.
About five hours later, we had a counter full of baked goodies and we were ready for Thanksgiving.
The next day, we all gathered at Ann's house for a day of feasting and of course a round of Apples to Apples.
Tom and Julia were the fearless mashers of the potatoes (which were obviously delicious)
We had an amazingly fun day!
Earlier in the week, we caught a lot of UW volleyball action with our lovely student section front row seats! If you've got the Pac-12 network, we frequent the big screen at the games so you may have seen us on there.
We've got a couple short weeks left of class before we can star the celebration of Christmas time. Oh, and some big news on the school front--I have officially been selected to work on a research project over the summer with a pediatric urologist, Dr. Thomas Lendvay regarding the use of robotic devices for surgery. You can read about Dr. Lendvay and what kind of work he has been up to here.
There are many more details to come but essentially I will be testing out the Raven robot on med students, interns and residents to see if training on the Raven results in learned skills on the da Vinci robot. Exciting things are coming our way!
