HOT HOT HOT

As the thermometer in our apartment read "93" for the outside temp and "84" for the inside temp (thanks to living on the top floor) we decided to head out to the waterfront to cool off. We found ourselves at Golden Gardens Park, near Ballard in Seattle. It's no Point D (I don't think any park can really compete with "the five"), but we did have a good time exploring. And, because it was right on the water, it was about 10 degrees cooler in the park than it was at home!

These turtles were pretty cute, sunning themselves in the pond.
We had to hand it to the park-- after all, it housed one of the only truly sand beaches in the Pacific Northwest, besides maybe Alki.
Like usual- Tom was sporting his tennis shoes on the beach. Someday I'll find him a pair of sandals that he'll actually wear for occasions like this so he doesn't end up with socks full of sand!
While walking along the beach we spotted a few brave souls that took on the cold temperatures of the Puget Sound while trying their hands at kite surfing.
We continued our walk along the beach until we reached the huge marina adjacent to the park. We had a great time wandering through the docks, humoring ourselves with the names of the boats.
Our favorite vessels were named: "The Love Muscle" and "Fishful Thinking."
And, if you take a close look, you can see that someone had a little sense of humor (or at least a creative side) when forming the man-made rock wall, complete with a Lochness monster look-alike :)
Today, we finally took advantage of the many blackberry bushes growing in Magnuson Park. Once again, we have taken advantage of another great benefit of living next to this park!
Now that the temps are dipping down into the mid-70's again I can fire up the oven (it was too hot in the house to do it before). I can smell some blackberry cobbler coming our way!
