Spring Awakening!

We had a fun night out on the town Saturday night! As you know from my previous post, we got tickets to a new musical on Broadway called "Spring Awakening" at the Pantages theater - a 91 year old building in Tacoma, full of history

Prior to heading to the theater we decided to make a night of it and try out a new restaurant. We decided on Maxwell's, just a few blocks down from the theater. It had great atmosphere and amazing food, but the service was a little less than desired. But, it didn't ruin our night. We headed off with full stomachs (sage roasted chicken for Tom and Filet Mignon for me!) to the theater. ( I took this picture from the internet because I loved the light fixtures so much!)

The show was packed with fellow UPS students, so we felt right at home. It was a fabulous show but definitely pushed the lines of typical theatrical performances. Let's just say you wouldn't bring your young children to it. It was very entertaining and their musical talent was certainly evident. It's about a group of young German students in the early 1900's and how they manage the angst of youth and it battles very tough topics (especially considering the time frame of the show) including abortion, homosexuality, and domestic violence. It was fascinating choreography and with a fun rock-concert feel during many of the songs. Our toes were tapping that's for sure :) -- but the 60 something year old man, was a little shocked at the performance and didn't return for the second act!

It was a packed show and, as expected, we walked out with the songs from the show replaying through our heads. What a great date night!
